Today, we love to include avocado in dozens of recipes. Some are very easy to make, and others are real culinary masterpieces. It’s not a surprise that so many people are looking for information about this amazing fruit. Without a doubt, avocado is dominating our kitchen shelves.

Avocados originated in South America, but these days, they have spread throughout many countries with a Mediterranean climate. It comes in a variety of shapes, sizes, and weights. Some avocados weigh even as much as 3 pounds (1.4 kg). However, a typical avocado without skin and seed weighs around 4.6 oz (130 grams).

There are many cultivars of avocado. The most popular is Hass, which comprises 80 % of all avocados grown commercially.

Superfood for Keto dieters

Eating avocado on a regular basis is popular among exercisers who prefer Keto diets.

Why?

An average avocado consists of around

• 21 g fat
• 2.7 g protein
• 12 g carbs of which 9.2 g is fiber
• 227 Calories

As you can see, the “alligator pear” mostly consists of fats. Don’t worry about this because the bulk of this is heart-healthy monounsaturated fats.

Avocado also offers around 20 vitamins and minerals in one serving.
Moreover, eating avocado helps you feel full and helps you to better stay on your weight loss journey.

Low in carbs, high in fiber and loaded with vitamins: avocado is a very suitable fruit for keto, Atkins, and other diets that strictly limit carb intake.

Net carbs in avocado

Those who religiously follow Keto diets count not just total carbs but pay attention to the net carbs in food. In a simple explanation, net carbs are equal to the total carb content minus the fiber.

So, how many net carbs are in a medium Hass avocado? Let’s get to numbers:

• Net carbs in a whole avocado – 2.8 g (12 g – 9.2 g)
• Net carbs in a half avocado – 1.4 g
• Net carbs in 100 grams of avocado – 2 g
• Net carbs in avocado per ounce – 0.6 g

In every case, it is a minute amount, because avocado is high in fiber and low in total carb content.
